Background
A new investment fund with a mandate for investing in the specialty finance sector was seeking expert support in reviewing the financial models behind each new investments
The models were based in Excel and the client wanted confidence that the models were working correctly and that the assumptions used were realistic and robust
Model Review
The Vestigo team undertook its standardised process for Excel model reviews for each new model, covering a detailed review of all workings in the model and validation of all cell calculations
The team highlighted where calculations were incorrect and where the layout/structure of the model could be improved
In addition, the team sense checked the assumptions used in the model, such as customer default and prepayment, against Vestigo’s benchmarking and market expertise
The review of the models was documented in a report, which was shared and discussed with the client
